Terminator Salvation (DVD)
More than an action thriller, Terminator Salvation is also a funny and surprisingly tender-hearted story. It would be a good idea to review the previous trio of Terminator films before you pick up this DVD. Otherwise, you may be wondering what's going on.
Christian Bale, best known for portraying superhero Batman, plays John Connor, a hero whose destiny is to save humans from machines, rather like Keanu Reeves' character Neo in The Matrix.
In the earlier films, terminators may have looked like people, but their attitudes and the way they held themselves made it obvious they were robots.
In this fourth instalment, the cyborgs' creators are capable of combining humans and machines for a far more sophisticated being. This means there are quite a few surprises in the story.
While you may not expect to laugh at this sort of film, it's difficult not to when Bale utters the immortal line 'I'll be back'.
The makeup and special effects are stunning. It's almost worth watching this twice for that reason alone.
