No more wonderful moments

HONG KONG Derby challenger Wonderful Moment has been retired after coming back badly lame from the February running of the $4 million Classic. The loss of the exciting Wonderful Moment is a blow to the all-conquering Ivan Allan stable but had looked likelysince Walter Swinburn brought him back lame. Allan, currently in New Zealand on a buying mission, had been hopeful initially of saving the exciting four-year-old but the vets gave the thumbs down two days ago. Wonderful Moment had scored exciting victoriesin griffin races and open company, winning one for Mick Dittman in exemplary fashion on International Races day last December.

Wonderful Moment scored his biggest success in last season's Happy Valley Vase when he beat odds-on favourite Flirting Dancer into third place.
