You have to go out on a limb to offer a novel retail experience in shopping-mad-but-staid Hong Kong and entrepreneur Luigino Bottos has done just that - with Bothos, a fashion-cum-lifestyle concept store that opened last month.

The owner of a style/trend forecasting firm and a product consultant to brands ranging from Valentino to Diesel, Bottos says: 'So many people I worked with would travel to every city but miss out Hong Kong because there was nothing unique here. I wanted to open this store to give people a chance to discover something new and creative, to put Hong Kong on the fashion map.'

Together with his team, Bottos has designed a sleek 1,000 sq ft space that showcases a range of unique, unusual, unisex products, including clothes, bags, small leather goods and belts inspired by his travels across Asia, specifically along the Silk Road. Each piece combines traditional Italian craftsmanship, eastern decorative arts and Bottos' modern aesthetic. Highlights include buttery soft bags made from canvas and deer and camel leather that fuse style and functionality, with multiple pockets and handles (one style features a detachable strap that is actually a belt).

The store itself is a treasure trove, outfitted with objects from Bottos' private collection - ranging from Chinese art and Venetian chande- liers to antique lamps and vintage Louis Vuitton steamer trunks.

At the back of the store, there is a tranquil Oriental garden, in which customers can sit and sip prosecco at monthly get-togethers.

Bottos has also opened a second store, on Wyndham Street, called Setha Courtesy of Bothos, which is dedicated to his jewellery collection and antique furniture.

Bothos is at 20 Hollywood Road, Central, tel: 2526 9222. Setha Courtesy of Bothos is at 50 Wyndham Street, Central.
