Vocals let down by technology
This DVD is an essential buy for fans. Yelling was Kay Tse On-kei's first concert, impressively debuting at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Unlike most other local pop singers, more than 90 per cent of the songs performed are her own. It was like a review of her singing career.
Tse's voice is excellent and in contrast to many young starlets, singing live comes easily. She also manages to dance while performing her upbeat numbers. If you're not familiar with this powerful and wonderful voice, this DVD is a good place to start the acquaintance.
The bonus DVD features some of the songs performed with guest artists. The most stunning is The Moon Represents My Heart, her duet with Asia's leading tenor, Warren Mok. It's a rare crossover of classical and Canto-pop music.
But it's a pity The Way You Make Me Feel and Hot Coffee, the duets sung with Eason Chan Yik-shun and Liza Wang Ming-chun respectively, are not included. Another conspicuous omission is the theme song from Japanese anime Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea - it would have been a far better inclusion than Do Re Mi.
One drawback of this DVD set is the video and audio quality. If you want the full concert experience, go for the Blu-Ray version. The DVD format is perfectly adequate for practising Tse's songs for karaoke.
