Boot camp closed
Amid reports that a second teenager has been beaten to death in an 'internet addiction' boot camp, authorities have closed at least one of the 'treatment centres'.
Provincial authorities closed the Guangzhou Qihang Survival Training Camp last Friday following the death of 15-year-old Deng Senshan.
He was beaten to death less than 24 hours after being admitted to the Nanning branch last month, reports said.
More than 100 other youths at the Nanning camp were released and four arrests have been made. A further 200 teens from its Panyu camp were released last week after its closure.
With many former 'addicts' complaining of brutal treatment, the latest incident comes a week after another 14-year-old boy died from kidney failure after repeated beatings in a Sichuan camp.
A similar incident a year ago at Qihang's Panyu camp, where a student died, resulted in a 30,000 yuan (HK$34,070) payout to the family before the camp changed its name.
