Cognac connoisseurs learn how to blend in

It was BYO night at Cyberport's Bel-Air Peak Wing on Thursday - except instead of 'bring you own', it was 'blend your own'. The occasion was a private cognac dinner hosted by Hennessy XO to introduce its new Iridescence Magnum, an exclusive spirit presented in a blingy decanter adorned with Swarovski crystals or a glinty gift box.

A member of the cognac's tasting committee, Laurent Lozano (right), even led a session showing the select party of connoisseurs how to mix their own bottle of cognac. According to Lozano, Hennessy is also the post-dinner drink of choice for a certain important political figure, who buys it by the carload. Lozano can't say for sure, but he's pretty sure it's for North Korea's Kim Jong-il. 'A car with diplomatic plates would arrive and fill up with our XO, but we never deal with their officials directly,' he said.

Bet 'Dear Leader' never has to BYO.
