Knives found in triad killing investigation

Police searching for evidence related to the killing of a triad leader in Tsim Sha Tsui early this month have found three knives on the seabed near Pak Shek Kok in Tai Po.

West Kowloon anti-triad unit officers were searching on Friday night for weapons used in the fatal chopping of Lee Tai-lung, the Tsim Sha Tsui faction leader of the Sun Yee-On triad, a person familiar with the investigation said.

Police would not officially confirm the find yesterday.

'The force believes it is not convenient to reveal the details of the investigation for operational reasons,' a police spokesman said. He would not say if police had any suspects.

Further investigations were needed to determine whether the knives found were the weapons used in the killing, the person familiar with the investigation said.

The search spot was not far from where two vehicles used by the killers were found burned out in Tai Po a few hours after the hit.

The development comes about a week after a funeral service for Lee was held at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hung Hom. It was attended by more than 100 relatives and mourners under the close watch of police.

Lee was hacked and stabbed to death on August 4 after getting out of his Mercedes-Benz, which had been rammed by a car outside the five-star Kowloon Shangri-la Hotel. Several men leapt from another vehicle and attacked him.

The murder bore the hallmarks of a Wo Shing Wo triad hit, according to police, who believe at least five people, including two drivers and three attackers, were involved.

A feud between the Sun Yee On and Wo Shing Wo triads has been identified as the motive for the killing.
