Become part of the story

If I ask you if you've ever read a story, you will say 'yes' in two seconds. But have you ever thought of a new story for the characters you are reading about?

Rewriting stories is interesting. You will get bored easily if you just read. Why not have a brainstorm while reading? You could try to pretend you are a character and figure out what you would do next.

Let's take the queen in Snow White as an example. Imagine yourself as the queen. Why does the queen want to kill Snow White? It's because she wants to be the prettiest woman in the world. But, if I were the queen, I would have a better idea. If I had magical powers, I would just become Snow White at a certain age so I could look pretty again.

If you read a book, you should always think through the content so you can enjoy reading and boost your thinking skills and imagination.

From the editor

Thanks for your letter, Chi-sum. Good stories are a great way to fire the imagination and, judging by some of the letters and essays we've been getting from readers, there are some very talented writers out there.

This term we have a few very exciting programmes that will also encourage our readers to put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboards. We have a professional scriptwriter who will help readers with their creative writing in an essay-writing workshop. For those who want a taste of real journalism, we will be starting a junior reporters' club. Then, of course, every so often we will have our Special Assignments, which encourage our readers to go out on reporting 'jobs'.

Hong Kong students will really get to show off their talent.
