Kerala's 'King of Comedy' to give fellow Malayalee a dose of the best medicine
The local Malayalee community in Hong Kong will probably have a good laugh over the weekend because one of India's top comedians, Innocent, is coming to town today. The actor-comedian from Kerala, who is also dubbed the 'King of Comedy' of his home state, will speak at a dinner show tomorrow. 'I have never been to Hong Kong before and am looking forward to seeing the place with my wife,' Innocent said. 'It would be good to see the Buddha temple and go sightseeing around Hong Kong, but Disneyland and Ocean Park isn't the place for an old man like me.'
Innocent has won acting awards over the years and he is also the most mimicked actor for his unique style and vocal mannerisms in India. The 65-year-old has also been president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) in India for the past nine years, and he shows no signs of slowing down. He also says he is expecting to appear in another six films this year.
'You know, my wife had asked me to resign from the post as the president of AMMA a while ago, saying that I had done it for many years,' he said. 'I told her, I've been the father of our children for many years too - you want me to resign from that position, too?'
The Onam Celebrations show and buffet dinner will start at 4pm tomorrow at South Island School, 50 Nam Fung Road. For tickets (HK$200 for adults and HK$120 for children) and inquiries, call 2369 1852. The show will only be presented in the Malayalam language.
