A further 529 new swine flu cases were confirmed yesterday, taking the total number of infections in Hong Kong to 17,518.

The new cases involved 274 males and 255 females aged between 10 months and 79 years. A spokesman for the Department of Health said they included 10 public hospital workers - one doctor, six nurses and three support staff.

A total of 524 public hospital workers have been confirmed with swine flu, of whom 369 have recovered and returned to work.

Of the 153 patients under treatment in public hospitals for the flu, 138 are stable, seven are in a serious condition and eight are critical. Thirteen people have died from the A (H1N1) virus.

A Hospital Authority spokesman said it had resumed services for chronically ill patients with scheduled appointments at eight clinics that had been temporarily designated as flu centres.

Other general outpatient services for people with episodic diseases, or requiring injections or wound care, would still be unavailable at these clinics for the time being.
