Ambitious Treasure comes to life

Trainer Ricky Yiu Poon-fai got his season off to something of a surprise start when injury-plagued Ambitious Treasure fulfilled some of his early promise in the Causeway Bay Handicap (1,200m) at over 20-1. Ambitious Treasure got Alex Lai Hoi-wing off the mark for the season after getting a dream rails run from his inside draw. 'He showed some promise as a two-year-old running second at his first start, but then he had a tendon problem and didn't race again for a year,' explained Yiu. 'At the end of last season, we had to race him to make sure he can stay in training. He didn't do so well then but his injury seems to have settled down for the moment. It wasn't a strong race and he got a great ride, so I'm happy to get a win.' The gelding is bred to want further than 1,200m but his tendon is sure to play a big part in whether he can get up to longer distances.
