Transport Department officials, acting on a sole complaint, plan to erect a HK$700,000 fence along a stretch of Old Peak Road.

The plan, which is being vetted by the Central Western District Council, will be just another eyesore on the city's hiking trails, Lung Fu Shan Environmental Concern chairman Vivian Leung said.

The trail has seen no accidents in two decades and two public consultations came out 90 per cent against the plan. According to Leung, the department's criteria could lead to the fencing of most of the territory's country lanes.
