Most trainers have now managed to get off the mark for the season with five of them doing it yesterday. Reigning champion Caspar Fownes started his score ticking with style, leading in a double, while Paul O'Sullivan, Sean Woods, Andy Leung Ting-wah and Derek Cruz all struck their first blows for the new season on the card. Still to get out of the gates are Me Tsui Yu-sak, Alex Wong Yu-on and John Size, whose season has begun in dismal fashion, with the Australian saddling up 36 runners without a win and that makes a nice round 50 starters since his last victory with You Gotta Pay at the end of June. 'Couldn't buy a winner,' was Size's typically laconic response after the inappropriately named Endless Luck looked a trifle unlucky in the ninth. By contrast, seven active jockeys still have yet to get going, with Ben So Tik-hung, James Winks and Terry Wong Chi-wai no longer among them after yesterday.
