The Storm Riders star Ekin Cheng Yee-kin has returned to the music scene after a six-year hiatus.

Cheng (right) signed with Sony Music this week in a lavish ceremony. The singer reportedly signed a two-year contract worth seven figures.

Asked how he felt about his comeback, the 41-year-old said: 'I didn't feel that I had left at all, but that I was just taking a really long break.'

Cheng also said he would release an album next month which would be followed by concerts at the Coliseum on December 18 and 19. He last played the venue 11 years ago.

His comeback single, appropriately titled New Song, was produced by Cheng's good friend singer Eason Chan Yik-shun with lyrics by Wyman Wong Wai-man that talk about how a person starts a new life.

Cheng's acting and singing career took off in the early 1990s when he played the popular hero Chan Ho-Nam in Andrew Lau Wai-keug's Young and Dangerous gangster film series, for which he sang many of the songs. But his career took a downturn after he dumped long-time girlfriend Maggie Siu Mei-ki for singer Gigi Leung Wing-kei, who was more than eight years his junior.

Cheng and Leung ended their six-year relationship in 2006. He is now dating television actress Yoyo Mung Ka-wai.
