Man, 79, admits chopping friend

An elderly man admitted in the District Court yesterday to using a chopper to attack a friend. Wong Chi-choi, 79, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent. The attack happened on a public housing estate in Kwun Tong on June 21. The victim, also 79, suffered cuts to his forearm and face. Sentencing was adjourned to October 23.

Aid for Philippines approved

The government approved two grants from the Disaster Relief Fund - HK$4.8 million to the Salvation Army and HK$2 million to World Vision Hong Kong - for relief projects for typhoon victims in the Philippines. The two agencies have to submit evaluation reports and audited accounts after the relief projects have been completed.

Two attacked at barbecue site

Two men were attacked by a group of about 15 at a barbecue site in Tung Chung, Lantau, at about 12.30am. Police said a passer-by was also injured. They were treated at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Falling concrete hits pedestrian

A small piece of concrete fell from a block of flats and injured a man in Yen Chow Street, Cheung Sha Wan, at 11.50am. He was treated at Caritas Medical Centre.
