Five Viets in clinic
FIVE hunger strikers were admitted to the clinic at the Tai A Chau Vietnamese detention centre yesterday after refusing food for several days.
And a government spokesman reported that of the 23 hunger strikers from High Island admitted to hospital on Monday, 12 had been discharged.
Their protest was part of a campaign in the three main Vietnamese camps against forced repatriation and the screening process for asylum seekers.
The action began in February before a meeting in Geneva of international delegates who decided that all Vietnamese asylum seekers should be repatriated by the end of next year.
The spokesman said 86 people were refusing food at Tai A Chau yesterday, 192 at High Island and 127 at Whitehead.
