Ladies can't get enough of grand day out

Sa Sa Ladies' Purse Day held its spot as the second-most popular as more than 80,000 turned out, including thousands of women revelling in the chance to dress up, throw on a hat and some glamour wear. The Jockey Club has built the day admirably over the past six years, with the help of its sponsor partner, to the point where only the Chinese New Year meeting attracts more racegoers and even turnover had the club smiling. On face value down by some HK$30 million from 2008, the figures were easily rationalised by the reduction from 11 races to 10 and the fact that the Triple Trio pool had been seeded to the tune of HK$10 million a year ago. 'The crowd was up by 4,000, turnover was good in pro-rata terms and I think had we had 11 races today, we might well have had a HK$1 billion turnover day,' said chief executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges. 'I am pleased with how the season is going overall.'
