Sixteen-year-old Steven Lam Tsz-fung served up a master-class to Hong Kong's professionals and amateurs alike as he strolled to victory in the Faldo Series Hong Kong Championship at the Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course yesterday.

Lam blitzed seven birdies in nine holes on his way to a course-record seven-under-par 65 in round one on the North Course in a tournament that also served as a UBS Hong Kong Open qualifier. He followed it up yesterday with a 68 to beat the nearest professional by 12 shots and win the Faldo Series Asia qualifier for the second year running by 25 from Liu Lok-tin.

Having already qualified for the UBS Hong Kong Open at Fanling, to be held from November 12-15, courtesy of his win in January's Hong Kong Amateur Close Championship, Lam's focus was on securing a place in the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen. He did so with ease and is now looking forward to spending time with six-time major winner Nick Faldo at the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking event in March 2010.

Lam said: 'I'm really happy with the way I played, particularly with the course record because I hadn't broken 70 before on this course. This will be my third Faldo Series Asia Grand Final so I'm looking forward to seeing Nick again and hopefully this year will be my year.'

Runner-up Liu, 16, will join Lam at Mission Hills, as will Stephanie Ho and 12-year-old Kitty Tam. The girls' qualifier for the Faldo Series Asia was played in conjunction with the Hong Kong Ladies Open Amateur Championship at Discovery Bay in September. Sixteen-year-old Ho finished tied for second place to take one Grand Final spot, while rising star Tam finished in fifth place to claim the other.
