On style, she rules

This is for my office roomie. She is looking for a 'classy' Catwoman-style latex costume for a very glamorous Halloween 40th birthday party, without having to go to a sex shop.

Friend of Glamour Puss, Central

The Dictator rules: Sure. It's for your 'roomie'. That's the oldest trick in the book! Speaking of old, consider this timeless equation: 40 years old + catsuit + latex = cougar. Not dissuaded? For a beautiful costume, spring like a cat chasing a juicy mouse to Partyland (B/F, 51 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2147 9283), where the last of its rather revealing Halle Berry-era Catwoman costumes is going, going, gone for HK$598. We suggest you do your research and decide exactly which feline form you wish to take. Our pick would be Eartha Kitt, but you might prefer the interpretations by Lee Meriwether, Julie Newmar or even Michelle Pfeiffer. You're running out of time, but Partyland does accept custom orders, which take about 10 days to complete. Try the sexy stylings of Remy Fashion (24 Li Yuen Street West, Central, tel: 2524 8847; www.remyfashion.com), where ready-made, tight black jumpsuits (just add cat ears) go for about HK$299, and custom-made costumes can be sewn up for about HK$400 within a fortnight. If latex is a must, then you'll have to order online from sites such as www.twistmyrubberarm.com or www.thelatexstore.com. We'd actually avoid costumes altogether. Better to invest in fashion's current leather and rubber trend - leggings, jackets, tops and dresses, which could later be worn separately. OK, and maybe a pair of cat ears from Pottinger Street.

I love those Balmain jackets with the big shoulders, but I've been told they're sold out. Where can I find some?

Cold Shouldered, Stanley

The Dictator: Get with the program-me. Everyone is now eyeing their picks from the spring/summer 2010 collections. Still, you can get this autumn/winter look with leather, peaked shoulder jackets by Rick Owens (HK$17,900 to HK$24,900; Joyce, 1/F, 16 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2810 1120). Accentuate the waist with a bolero cut (HK$4,495) or fitted blazer (HK$9,995) by Paule Ka (1/F, Chater House, Central, tel: 2868 2099). Yves Saint Laurent has sharpened its jackets in classic grey wool with double shoulders (HK$16,300; shop G116, 11 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2377 2608); and Dolce & Gabbana offers several exaggerated styles, from pointy to Edwardian (HK$17,000 to HK$18,600; G/F, Alexandra House, Central, tel: 2877 5558). While we're on pleated shoulders, they stand out at H&M, too, this time on a cute trench (only HK$399; 68 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2110 9546). Other brands to look for: Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Moschino. Even Zara has some fabulous options (about HK$899; Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2918 1099). Finally, if you'll widen your search to dresses and shirts with inflated shoulders, then you'll be overwhelmed with choice. (Do we need to warn you against wearing more than one big-shouldered piece at once? You have been warned.)
