Lie down and relax

Long hours at work and an increasing build-up of stress mean people are getting less sleep every night. Sleep deprivation can lead to a variety of problems ranging from depression and weight-gain to blurry vision and heart disease, so it's important that we catch enough quality sleep for our bodies to recover every day. Now, insomniacs can dream again, as the top spas in town come out with sleep-inducing treatments that will make sure you come home fully relaxed and ready for a good night's sleep.

Jet setters can set their body clocks straight with the Jet Lag Full Day Spa Journey (HK$3,930) provided by the Peninsula Spa by ESPA. The four-hour treatment includes an ESPA Jet Lag Eliminator Wrap and an ESPA Jet Lag Eliminator Massage that can be tailored to soothe the body and mind, and induce sleep. An ESPA Instant Brightener Facial combats the effects caused by flying and lack of sleep for brighter and more illuminated skin.

Those who toss and turn at night and wake up exhausted the next day should try the Dreamtime Journey treatment (HK$2,600) at the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong. The 2?-hour treatment restores the natural rhythm of sleep and dreaming by balancing the earth and throat chakras. It includes a scrub to restore the lymphatic system, a marma massage, hot Himalayan salt poultices, and a fresh royal jelly and wild poppy facial.

SPA by MTM offers a similarly sleep-inducing treatment. The new Blissful Restoring Therapy (HK$2,550) spans three hours and includes a milky foot bath, a Blissful Restoring Massage using 'cat-type caressing' techniques designed to encourage sleep, a green tea sea-salt scrub, a body milk bath, and a body conditioning treatment with yogurt, honey essences and herbal extracts.

Those who want an overnight experience may check in at the Langham Place hotel, which has just launched a 'Dream Big' programme designed to lull guests into a restful sleep. Guests receive a surprise gift that changes every night. This could be anything from lavender bath salts to milk cookies, chamomile tea or even a relaxation music CD.
