Shopping for lip products has got to be one of the most stressful ways to spend an afternoon. With the overwhelming choice out there, the prospect of picking just one can be daunting. Good thing we have narrowed it down to a small selection of our favourite lip products for this season, from high-intensity colour and shiny glosses to high volume plumpers and soothing balms. 
Colour 
Bobbi Brown 
Creamy Lip Color (HK$180, top left). They say: 'This innovative new lip product combines rich colour with comfortable, long-lasting wear and a soft, creamy shine.'
We love: how smoothly the product went on our lips. The colour was rich and the consistency was smooth rather than sticky. Comes in 14 shades.
Rouge G de Guerlain (HK$350, top right). They say: 'From the first moment of contact, Rouge G de Guerlain covers the lips in a dense and intensely coloured film ... made possible by a concentration of pigments combined with liquid mother-of-pearl ...'
We love: how gorgeous and innovative the product is. The lipstick comes in a sleek casing with a magnetic mechanism. By pressing on the button on the side, the casing opens to a compact mirror, then the lipstick is detached for application. Comes in 25 shades. Available at Lane Crawford. 
Shine 
Clinique 
Vitamin C Lip Smoothie (HK$140, below from left). They say: 'Bursting with antioxidant ingredients, Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Colour ... is a healthy dose of luscious colour in six juicy shades rich in moisture and shine. Think of it as an antioxidant fruit smoothie, for the lips.'
We love: how moisturising it is. We could literally feel the skin on our lips soften minutes after application. The product delivered a nice shine without going overboard, and the colour lasted for a long time. Note: The product will be available in Clinique counters from October 24.
BY TERRY Lip Expert (HK$265). They say: 'Hydra-shine gloss. Contains plumping micropeptides for maxi-volume effect. The supple, generous tube, the precise brush and the delicious fragrance make this sexy balm a delightful treat for the lips.'
We love: how the fragrance is delicate and subtle. The shine also lasts for a long time and lips didn't feel sticky afterwards. Comes in eight shades. 
Plump 
Bee Stung
Maxi Lip Plump  by Pop Beauty (HK$109). They say: 'Our super strength, award winning, lip plumper creates a maximum bee stung pout by re-hydrating and trapping moisture to the lips ... Circulation and blood flow to the lip area are greatly improved for lasting, cushioned plumpness.'
We love: how there is practically no tingling. The product does a great job of plumping and smoothing our lips, but without that annoying numbing, stinging feeling most lip plumpers have. Available in Sephora.
MoreLip by Jane Iredale (HK$200). They say:  'MoreLip contains softening and hydrating ingredients like sunflower oil and aloe vera. Essential oils of lemon and tangerine help to exfoliate any flaky skin.'
We love: how the balm smells and tastes great. Effects lasted longer than most plumpers, due to the time-release ingredients. Available at the Mandarin Salon in the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. 
Balm 
The Lip Balm by La Mer (HK$400). They say: 'The Lip Balm ... blends a highly potent concentration of the nutrient-rich broth found in Cr?me de la Mer and incorporates this with other essential materials. Lips feel incredibly smooth and soft, and feel plumper.'
We love: how effective it is. For slightly dry lips, one application in the morning is all it takes. The product went on smooth and creamy, as opposed to heavy and waxy like some balms. Available at Lane Crawford. 
Mentholatum MaxiLip (HK$39.90). They say: 'The unique multilayered design delivers ultimate care to lips. The outer layer contains Ceremide, which locks up moisture and provides long lasting moisture for lips. The inner layer is enriched with Maxi-Lip TM to help reduce fine lines and keep lips supple.'
We love: the simple, clean casing and, of course, the price tag. The product is as unobtrusive as its packaging - the balm is unscented and colourless, without the greasy residue some balms have. Incredibly moisturising, the effects remain even after eating and drinking. 
BioKiss by Biologique Recherche (HK$350). They say: 'Its rehydrating and softening action helps prevent excessive drying of the lips. 
'Its soothing and calming effect relieves chapped lips due to cold weather or dehydration. Helps protect lips and prevents appearance of fine lines.'
We love: how good lipstick looks on top of the balm. It isn't too creamy so the lipstick doesn't run, but is hydrating enough to keep the colour looking smooth and even.
