Italian flavour continues as Soho trattoria tries its luck in Wan Chai

While Grissini celebrated, another Italian joint got in on the action. Since 1996, a small trattoria called La Piazzetta has quietly served no-nonsense pizza and pasta in Soho. Thirteen years on, owner Paolo Donati has finally opened a second branch. The two-storey Wan Chai outlet threw an opening celebration, also on Tuesday, at its Hennessy Road venue, taking over the spot that used to be Pomodoro - the short-lived franchise of another Soho mainstay, Panevino.

'I opened the first one for fun but none of my sons wanted to help me, so I find Julian. He's a great partner,' explained Donati (centre). That would be business partner Julian Wong Wai-chua (left) who also brought his son Jeremy (right) and daughter Ingrid into the fold. The family sheepishly admit they have no food industry experience but just love Italian food. Let's hope the new La Piazzetta lasts longer than Pomodoro.
