The government issued an amber travel alert for the Philippines yesterday, advising travellers to monitor the situation as a typhoon neared Luzon. The Security Bureau's Outbound Travel Alert System, which covers 60 countries and uses amber, red and black for various levels of risk, came into effect on Tuesday. Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand and Turkey have also been placed on amber alert, the lowest rating.
