Two patients aged 59 and 60 die of swine flu

Two people died of swine flu on Sunday and yesterday, becoming the city's 35th and 36th victims. A 60-year-old man with a record of good health was admitted to Chai Wan's Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on Saturday when he was confirmed to have swine flu, a Hospital Authority spokesman said. His condition deteriorated and he died yesterday. A 59-year-old woman with liver cancer and other complaints was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam on October 14 and was confirmed to have swine flu on October 19. Her condition deteriorated and she died at 10am on Sunday.

Children in hospital after flat fire

A family of four including a 10-month-old boy were treated for smoke inhalation after an electric fan caught fire in their Tseung Kwan O flat yesterday. The blaze broke out in the living room of the 12th-floor flat at Metro City in Kai King Road at about 5.10am. Firemen put out the blaze by 5.30am. The 10-month-old and his 10-year-old brother were under observation at Tseung Kwan O Hospital last night. Their parents had been discharged.

Muggers flee with HK$40,000

Two men grabbed a woman from behind, pushed her to the ground and snatched her handbag containing HK$40,000 in cash in Wo Yi Hop Road, Kwai Chung, at about 3.45pm. Police said one culprit was overweight, about 40 and wearing a black shirt. The other was of thin build and wore slippers. The woman was treated for minor injuries at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Crash driver refuses breath test

A 31-year-old was arrested for refusing to take a breath test after his delivery van ran into the back of a cab in Jordan.
