You don't have to write a book, just read, Vittachi says
Central's biggest bookstore has got a little bit better looking. Bookazine in the Prince's Building hosted a reopening party on Saturday afternoon, complete with snacks, drinks and humorist Nury Vittachi (pictured) offering sage advice on how books can change lives.
'You don't even have to write one. Just reading the right books can transform your future,' Vittachi said.
Of course, he still writes, and has two new ones, a novel, Mr Wong Goes West, and a cheeky children's book, Wicked Christmas, which he hopes will sell enough to improve his lot.
However, the biggest upgrade is in the shop's refreshed, sleeker surroundings.
'We only closed for about two days,' Shonee Mirchandani, managing director of Bookazine's parent company, Far East Media, said.
'The renovation was done in three phases and we just kept moving around the whole shop three times, which was difficult because it's a big store,' Mirchandani said.
'We wanted to provide a better shopping experience for the customers. Hong Kong has very high standards.
'Of course, it's not like the bookstores overseas that are over 10,000 sq ft. We only have about 3,500 sq ft, but we have some bean bags and stools now. We'll probably add more chairs after Christmas.'
