Two swine flu patients critical
Two critical cases of swine flu were reported yesterday. The condition of a 30-year-old woman admitted to Sha Tin's Prince of Wales Hospital on Sunday had deteriorated and she was transferred to intensive care. A 47-year-old man admitted to intensive care at Wan Chai's Ruttonjee Hospital on Monday was receiving breathing support yesterday. Meanwhile, 13 patients in a male ward at Siu Lam Hospital in Castle Peak have fallen ill with swine flu, but were in stable condition.
Man in court over father's death
An unemployed 22-year-old man appeared in Kwun Tong Court charged with wounding with intent for allegedly attacking his elderly father on an estate in Ngau Tau Kok. Kwong Yuen-siu entered no plea to wounding Kwong King-nam at their home on Ping Shek Estate on October 11. The father later died. The case was adjourned to Friday and Kwong was remanded in police custody.
Banned preservative in meat
The Centre for Food Safety found the banned preservative sulphur dioxide in 11 of 222 meat samples tested. Nine fresh beef samples and two fresh pork samples contained the preservative, all from wet-market stalls. Five of the stalls were repeat offenders and four were prosecuted.
