The Editor's Note

For most people an empty house is like a bare canvass. Walk in, see the walls, the windows and the floors and the imagination begins to run riot. We picture a painting above the fire place, some silk curtains leading to a breezy verandah, and an exquisite antique rug beneath a modern glass table. That is why interior design is such a pleasure. Creating a home is like making a complicated sculpture with each piece representing a facet of the owner's personality. In this Design & Living edition of Style magazine we have tapped into a goldmine of creative resources that will help guide those wanting to make their living space a thing of beauty. With the Asian/western design fusion team of Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, the museum-inspired creativity of Massimo Listri, the couture furniture of Philipp Plein and the Icelandic cool of Katrin Olina the pages that follow have enough ideas to fill a dozen homes. For any spaces that are left we offer the carefully researched selections of our +STUFF ticker, which graces all our feature stories. And for those wanting to start from scratch and build a new house we present a reappraisal of the radical Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi.
