South African returns with a vengeance

It didn't take Jeff Lloyd long to bounce back to the winner's circle, with the South African taking out the opener at his first ride since fracturing an ankle on October 4. Lloyd's mount that day, Tom's Six, collapsed beneath him after the winning post and he was finally diagnosed a week later with the fracture, which required his ankle to be placed in a cast. But Lloyd showed no signs of rust when he pushed well-bred debutant St Didar right to the line to win the Class Four down the straight for David Ferraris, who has a nice opinion of the half-brother to former outstanding New Zealand filly, Jazzella. 'He's only had one trial before this, I hadn't pushed him, but he was still able to win and I think he's quite exciting,' Ferraris said. 'He's a lovely, laid-back horse, well made and I thought he looked one of the major hopes in the race. He's got good gate speed but 1,000m probably isn't going to be his ideal and he'll probably step up to 1,200m now.'
