Sharks too close for comfort

A new study has found great white sharks do swim close to shore. People thought sharks did not go close to shore before. Experts found sharks in San Francisco Bay. This means they also swim near busy beaches.

Background

The findings were based on a study of 179 Pacific great whites. Experts found some sharks travelled as far as 5,000 kilometres.

The study's lead writer said most great whites ignored people near shore.
