Olivier Doleuze said he couldn't recall coming down the straight quite as slowly as he did on Class Five winner Mythic Steed yesterday but managed to kid the old gelding into a victory. 'I thought the straight was never going to end,' he said after the 2,000m event in which Mythic Steed had to survive a protest from Fishking Excellent for interference over the final stages of the race. 'My horse travelled like a winner all the way but when he came to the front, the more I asked for, the less he gave. I had to put the whip away and trick him that it was all over so he kept on going.' The Jockey Club's chief steward, Kim Kelly, said that the protest hearing had been 'fairly cut and dried'. 'There was minimal interference on the two occasions they brushed, the winner was a head in front of Fishking Excellent at the 200m and still a head in front at the finish,' he explained. 'Although the winner moved inwards, Fishking Excellent was also moving in so the contact they had was very light.'
