Elderly man with swine flu dies
A 76-year-old man suffering from swine flu died yesterday at North District Hospital. The man, with a history of chronic lung disease and hypertension, developed flu symptoms on October 30. He was prescribed Tamiflu and antibiotics but became critically ill on Wednesday.
No conflict of interest seen
A Legco subcommittee investigating former housing chief Leung Chin-man's post-retirement employment with New World China Land unanimously decided that legislator and barrister Ronny Tong Ka-wah's previous business links with the developer would not cause a conflict of interest in investigating the case.
Opening of border area urged
Lawmakers have urged the government to open the Sha Tau Kok border area and suggested building a railway from Fanling north to Sha Tau Kok to meet the demands from planned new town developments in the northeastern New Territories. The new towns, close to the border areas to be opened in stages next year, will house a population of 130,000.
