Ex-agony aunt ready to challenge league
Former agony aunt Pamela Pak Wan-kam yesterday said she would challenge League of Social Democrats chairman Wong Yuk-man in a by-election if he went ahead with a resignation plan to create a de facto referendum on universal suffrage.
'My platform is to build Hong Kong as a new Wall Street by inviting foreigners to rent premises in the new government headquarters at the Tamar site,' Pak, the partner of legislator Paul Tse Wai-chun, said. 'I don't like Wong Yuk-man making so much noise.'
Pak said her decision was made after listening to her housewife friends during a Cantonese opera, where they criticised Wong and his colleague, legislator 'Long Hair' Leung Kwok-hung, for being bad examples for young people.
'I cannot bear them forcing other democrats to join the resignation plan,' Pak said. ''Mad Dog' [Wong's nickname] and 'Long Hair' only know how to wreak havoc.'
She said she would not try to seek support from the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong nor would she fear diluting support for any government allies eyeing the Kowloon West vacancy should Wong resign and contest a by-election.
Was her plan endorsed by her partner, who represents the tourism sector in Legco? 'Paul didn't even know. I never asked him,' Pak replied.
