Cold weather brings tiger baby boom

Experts believe more than 100 cubs will be born at the world's biggest Siberian tiger nursery.

The tiger park in Heilongjiang is 144 hectares of bush and grass. The park has more than 800 tigers.

Experts say the good weather helped the animals have more babies. They said the early cold weather made them very active. Many people also think because the next Lunar New Year is the Year of the Tiger, this has helped the tigers make more cubs. Tiger cubs are born after three and a half months.

Background

The mainland is a global leader when it comes to saving the tiger. The Siberian tiger was almost wiped out. They used to live close to Europe. Hunters killed them.

After farmers moved in, they cultivated crops and cut down forests. This forced the tigers further east. Now, only a few hundred tigers are left in the wild.
