Be prepared for life in the workplace

Most teenagers are not sure what career they should pursue. In today's globalised society, work experience is as important as your academic background.

As a Chinese saying goes, 'if you know yourself and others well, you will always be the winner'.

It is crucial to be an 'all-rounder' if you want to be successful. For example, once you have worked in business and finance, you can easily move to another field.

If you have experience, you can choose your career wisely. Then you don't have to worry about the future. Don't bury yourself in your studies. Try to expand your horizons and learn more about different jobs.

Drug testing should be compulsory

For many years, students at my school have been taking part in a drug-testing scheme. Under the system, the school chooses two students each day to provide a hair sample for drug testing. Youth drug abuse is a serious problem in Hong Kong. To tackle it, a voluntary drug-testing scheme has been introduced in Tai Po schools.

Some school administrators believe forcing students to take drug tests violates their rights. Does this mean students in our school do not have rights?

I believe voluntary drug-testing schemes would not be effective in reducing youth drug abuse. Drug testing should be compulsory. Drug users can only be identified by such a system. I am sure it will be successful.

Don't fret over Shanghai Disney

Shanghai will build a Disney theme park to boost the city's tourism industry. A lot of Hongkongers are worried the new attraction will affect our economy.

But there's no need to worry. The Shanghai Disneyland will be smaller than Hong Kong's. Besides, Hong Kong has a well-developed tourism industry.

Our city does not depend only on the Magic Kingdom to attract visitors. It is a shopping paradise and visitors are fascinated by our scenic spots and unique culture.

There's no need to worry about our 'new competitor'.

I am writing in response to the letter 'Finding comfort in cartoons' (Young Post, November 17). I agree young people can benefit from cartoons.

We are all looking for happiness amid the sadness that surrounds us. And cartoons are the perfect solution. Cartoons like Superman and Spider-Man have thrilled millions around the world.

Cartoons can also educate us. For example, the ATV series Blue Cat helps improve our science knowledge.

Cartoons can teach us many things about life. They can also help us relax.
