Fighters rise again after 10 years

Sunny Tse

More than 10 years after the release of local blockbuster The Storm Riders, pop idols Aaron Kwok Fu-shing and Ekin Cheng - along with a stellar cast - return to their heroic leads as Cloud and Wind in follow-up The Storm Warriors. The saga is based on the best-selling comic of 18 years by Ma Wing-shing - the 'Godfather of Hong Kong Comics'.

The evil Lord Godless (Simon Yam Tat-wah) and his son Heart (Nicholas Tse Ting-fung) invade China with the aim of finding the sacred royal tomb, Heaven Cave. It is believed whoever reaches the cave holds the destiny of the country in their hands.

The father and son imprison The Emperor (Patrick Tam Yiu-man) and his guards. When kung fu masters Nameless (Kenny Ho Ka-king), Cloud (Kwok) and Wind (Cheng) come to the rescue, they get more than they bargained for.

Realising they will have to improve their skills, the cold, merciless Cloud and the kind-hearted Wind begin training with Nameless and Lord Wicked, the best two warriors in the country.

For the greater good of his countrymen, Wind trades his humanity for the powers of evil. Yet, soon after he meets Dream (Charlene Choi Cheuk-yin), he starts to lose his balance and sanity. Watching his friend become a ruthless killer, Cloud starts to care. Can Wind come back to his senses in time for the grand battle at the Heaven Cave? Or will he go over to the dark side?

Directed by the CGI-savvy Pang Brothers of The Eye fame, The Storm Warriors was inspired by the ground-breaking war epic 300. Advanced technology has revolutionised filmmaking, and it is now possible to make the most out-of-the-world fantasy.

Award-winning art and costume director Yee Chung-man - nominated for an Oscar for Curse of the Golden Flower - brings life to the epic, action fantasy, with authentic armour and swords, while the heroes all have the unique, signature look inspired by the comic book. The choreography, by Ma Yuk-shing, is also spectacular.
