HK hit road block in quarter-finals

Hong Kong's involvement in the tennis competition ended when the last three surviving combinations all bowed out at the quarter-final stage yesterday. In the men's doubles, Jack Hui Cheuk-wai and Brian Hung Lap-hei were ousted in straight sets by China's Zeng Shaoxuan and Zheng Ze. The women's pair of Venise Chan Wing-yau and Polly Lam Po-kuen met a similar fate at the hands of China's Ji Chunmei and Xu Yifan. In the mixed doubles, Zhang Ling and Hung were also knocked out. 'We reached the quarter-finals in all five events, including the men's and women's singles ... but the quality of the competition was high,' said Janet Hardisty, general manager of the Hong Kong Tennis Association.
