Leave This Town Daughtry (CD)
Three years after the release of Daughtry's Grammy-nominated, self-titled debut, the band has released Leave This Town. The album is full of electrifying tracks that can't help but impress. Take opener You Don't Belong for example: crashing cymbals and lead singer Chris Daughtry's raw emotion combine to create an incredible heavy rock number. Supernatural and Ghost of Me feature equally powerful vocal delivery and superb guitar playing.
Life after You slows things down. The heartfelt lyrics about an empty relationship perfectly suit Daughtry's passionate voice. September is another touching ballad, describing a very personal experience about growing up and moving on from his hometown in North Carolina. Uninspiring down-tempo number Learn My Lesson is the one low point on the album.
No Surprise is, as the title hints, unsurprisingly the highlight of the album. Co-written with Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, the track shows Daughtry at his best, the ultimate rock star.
While Daughtry's star-quality vocals are no more impressive than on the first release, the band's solid performances and impressive new songs are more than enough to warrant you rushing out to the record store immediately.
