Christmas at the mall: circus, Snoopy and Broadway show

Mall managers are once again thinking outside the box with their Christmas festivities. With only so many shopping days left, it has been a mad rush to divert shoppers' attention to their space with more than just another tinsel tree and a rent-a-Santa.

The IFC mall is again featuring a veritable circus in its atrium. On Tuesday, it previewed the aerial display that French troupe Les Farfadais (top photo) will perform until December 27. Featuring mid-air stilt-walking flying angels, balletic acrobats and singers, it's almost like a Cirque du Soleil show between Lane Crawford and agnes b.

Meanwhile, the Elements mall is stuffing some sexy stockings by bringing in performers from the original Broadway production of Chicago. Nothing brings good tidings of cheer like a little sex, scandal and murder. They will do short song and dance bits over the holiday period from the show.

Over in Sha Tin, the New Town Plaza features puppets and Snoopys. There is an exhibition of puppets created by veteran local puppeteer Uncle Ka Ming (Wong Hei) as well as handmade marionettes from the Czech Republic continuing until the New Year. At the same time, there is a Snoopy Xmas Museum in another part of the mall, with 28 sets of Snoopys, plus 13 large sculptures of the famous beagle designed by such brands as LV, Comme Des Garcon and Chanel. Yeah, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here.
