Pricey whisky with a fine 'odour' flows as dandies enjoy a night on the town
It was essentially a boys' night out at Cipriani on Wednesday. More precisely, it was a dandies' night, as whisky maker Macallan plied its spirits on the town's luxury lads. Single malt from 12 to 18 years old was served up along with roast lamb, smoked salmon and canapes.
According to the hosts, the theme of the evening was 'the finest cut' - and to keep the banker gents amused, suitmaker Geives & Hawkes had a display of its wares, Tassles presented its leather shoes, and Chaumet showed some watches. But the largest stall was for a 57-year-old Scotch Macallan in a swank crystal bottle created by Lalique. It seems 400 such decanters were made and only four are available to Hongkongers. For HK$118,000, it could be quite a Christmas present to brag about.
However, the big sales pitch was largely ignored by the posh crowd. It didn't help that host and TV presenter Jason Chan Chi-sun was babbling on about luxury and fine taste like an episode of Dolce Vita. Worse was his choice of words, referring to the whisky's aromatic bouquet as its 'odour'. Oh well, most guests weren't listening, distracted as they were by such decorations as models Kathy Chow Man-kei (left in picture)and Jocelyn Luko (right).
