Ex-officer who assaulted women in police station on more charges

An ex-policeman jailed for sexually assaulting four women in a police station appeared in the District Court yesterday charged with dishonestly accessing police computers to obtain the victims' contact information. Leung Lai-chung, 30, faced 11 charges for offences committed between August and November last year. The case was adjourned to January 14 for a plea. Leung was jailed for 12 years for raping a teenager and molesting two others and a 21-year-old woman in Mong Kok police station in November. He allegedly obtained their data from police computers and called them to the police station on the pretext of discussing their cases, then assaulted them.

Woman seeks damages for sacking over her pregnancy

The Equal Opportunities Commission is suing a company for sacking a woman on the first day of work because she was pregnant. A writ filed in the District Court alleges an assistant sales manager with Gerber Far East 1959, which sells household products, sacked Eva Wong Suet-yee on October 6 last year after noticing she was pregnant. The manager said he feared she would hurt her fetus at work and offered to rehire her after she gave birth. Wong is seeking damages for injury to her feelings caused by the dismissal and HK$30,334 in compensation for loss of income between October last year and September this year.

Journalist acquitted of assault

A People's Daily journalist, accused of slapping the owner of a shop on Apliu Street, Sham Shui Po, and knocking some of his telephone merchandise over in a dispute over a digital camcorder, was acquitted. Li Jinhui, 38, had earlier pleaded not guilty in Kwun Tong Court to common assault and criminal damage. She was accused of attacking Tam Ka-nok on October 8 when she tried to return a digital camcorder bought from him.

No one won the first prize in last night's draw. The numbers were 6, 23, 30, 33, 43 and 44. The extra number was 10. Ten tickets each won second prize of HK$355,020. Third prize paid HK$35,590.
