Life-size Barbie doll too true to life for Asia's busiest starlet

Who was Asia's busiest actress in 2009? It might come as a surprise to learn that the distinction goes to Barbie Hsu Hsi-yuan.

The Taiwanese star topped a survey as last year's highest-earning Chinese actress, beating other busy bodies like Zhou Xun and Li Bingbing due to her four film projects - including Wong Jing's Future X-Cops (opening February 25), co-starring Andy Lau Tak-wah, Fan Bingbing and Mike He Jun-xiang.

Hsu has also been busy with non-movie activities. Yesterday, she showed up in town for a Suisse Programme beauty product event, and last month she sat for a Madame Tussauds wax figure.

Hsu's own life-size Barbie doll will be unveiled next month with the movie's launch. At a recent press conference, Hsu explained how at times she had to sit still and maintain a smile (pictured) for two to three hours.

However, the 33-year-old believes the tiresome task will pay off when her sexy looks are gone.

'When I think about coming back here when I'm 80 years old, with my children and grandchildren, to see this youthful-looking wax figure of me, all the hard work will be worth it,' she said, despite that fact that sometimes the artists' work was more true to life than she would have liked.

'I asked them to make some changes to my wax figure, like making my face smaller, my legs longer and giving me a better figure, but they refused. They said they have to stay true to the real person.'

Well, isn't that what plastic surgeons are for?
