A study on elderly abuse showed that almost half of the abusers were the victims' children, while some 28 per cent were their spouses. The Hong Kong Christian Service reviewed the 92 elderly abuse cases it had handled under its Elder Abuse Reconciliation Service between 2005 and early 2009 and found almost 40 per cent of the cases involved 'psychological abuse'.
