Test trio for birthday party

NINETY not out, with a long innings to come. That is what Kowloon Cricket Club will be celebrating this weekend at their Cox's Road venue.

KCC turns 90 years, on October 15 to be exact. This important milestone will be heralded in, earlier, by the local cricketing community with the help of Governor Chris Patten, and former Australian Test stars Bruce Yardley, Tom Moody and Geoff Marsh.

The festivities begin with a cricket evening tomorrow.

The action on the field gets underway on Saturday when a dozen teams will participate in a Sixes tournament.

Patten will attend and has even agreed to lend his name to one of the teams, which will be called the Governor's VI - although Yardley won't be playing for them.

'I'm not a whisky and soda man,' he joked yesterday in reference to + the governor's two pet dogs.

A dinner dance will also be held on Saturday night with the dress theme being the turn of the century.

On Sunday there will be a 40-over match between an International Invitation XI and an All Stars XI.

A charity auction will also see a bat bearing the signature of Sir Donald Bradman being auctioned off as well as copies of the famous Bradman Tapes.

Members of the public, interested in buying tickets for the Friday cricket evening ($200 per head) and the dinner dance on Saturday ($320) can telephone 723-3536.
