Centre may face charges over abuse

The Social Welfare Department is seeking the Department of Justice's advice on whether it can prosecute the home for the elderly where a woman was forced to eat her faeces.

Secretary for Labour and Welfare Matthew Cheung Kin-chung told lawmakers yesterday that Southern Centre for the Aged in Ku Tung did not do enough to protect its residents.

It did not do everything it should do after receiving complaints that its residents had been abused, he said.
