Students and staff at HKBU enjoy a week of green fun
At the week-long Green Festival at Hong Kong Baptist University, student ambassadors took the lead on campus. They organised activities such as a green art exhibition, a second-hand market and a green music concert.
Professors did their bit and gave talks on green industry and technology.
At the second-hand market, students were encouraged to donate for sale things they did not need. Many students, especially the residents of the Student Hall, took the opportunity to sell unwanted clothes. All funds collected were donated to charity, according to a spokeswoman for the university. Campus caterers were also encouraged to cook less meat and more vegetables, and also to provide straws for drinks only when customers asked for them.
The Green Festival also featured a University Students Summit to mark Environmental Protection Day 2010, with students from Finland, Singapore, Macau and the mainland participating. As part of the summit, experts shared innovative ideas for going green while doing business. Sponsored by Hang Seng Bank, the Green Festival - now in its second year - was an important activity for the university, said the spokeswoman. She added that this year's activities had been considered a 'success'.
