Council expects rise in students
The British Council is predicting an increase in the number of Hong Kong students going to study in Britain after more than 9,600 people attended the Education K Exhibition at the weekend - a 15 per cent increase on last year. The rise follows a 7 per cent increase in the number of student visas Britain issued to Hongkongers in the second two quarters of last year compared with 2008.
Pay cut for university employees
Baptist University's ruling council has approved a 5.38 per cent salary cut for 440 employees in higher salary bands - about 18 per cent of full-time staff - after the government cut its funding by HK$22 million a year. The cut will affect all staff earning more than HK$48,700, including president Ng Ching-fai and senior managers. The university said it had no other option after the reduction in funding.
