The Winter Olympics in Vancouver may not be attracting the same attention here as the Beijing Games did, but one place where the Olympic spirit is alive and well is Toby Cooper's The Globe Pub. Now at its new home at 45-53 Graham Street, the bar has been hosting its own pub winter games since the start of the week - yes, they were open throughout the holidays and even gave out pickled eggs to couples on Valentine's Day.

The pub's sporting events always involve some form of recreational drinking. Among the competitions during this week's cold spell: the biathlon (down a pint, score over 100 at darts and down another pint); the four man bobsled (four bottles of beer and four straws); the skeleton (drink a pint of ale from a glass filled with ice); and luge (drink a beer bong lying on your back). The games will continue for the duration of the Olympics, with the beer man acting as scorekeeper, referee and judge. 'Mediocre prizes for the winners at the end of the month,' Cooper promised. 'Unlike the Nancy Kissel trial, the judge's decision is final.' Ouch. That should be a two-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
