In football, there are two words you cannot use: never and always.
The wise statement didn't come from a long passed footballing great like Bill Shankly, Alf Ramsey or Brian Clough: they were spoken just this month by former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier on a flying trip to Asia.
The 62-year-old Frenchman was visiting Kuala Lumpur to assist in a coaching workshop for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). He was responding to a question about whether he would consider returning to football management, 21/2 years after leaving seven-time Ligue 1 champions, Lyon.
'To be honest with you, whether it's at the age of 80, 70, 60 or 50, when you stop management and you like the daily involvement, it's very difficult to overcome that,' Houllier said. 'You always want to go back.
'Now you're going to ask me if I'm going to go back into management... I can anticipate your question. Who knows? Maybe.'
Houllier is now technical director of Football Federation France (FFF) and is living again in Paris, where he was based before moving to Anfield in 1998 for an eventful six-year spell.
