Furry friends need your support

If you're into cute and furry, you'll want to be at City University. Starting tomorrow, five students on a crusade to save Hong Kong's bunnies will be holding fund-raising activities on campus.

Guests can have a photo taken with a rabbit, buy rabbit-related goodies such as calendars, and learn more about caring for a rabbit. The campaign ends on Thursday.

Rabbits are popular but often end up abandoned, says Hong Kong Rabbit Society (HKRS) chairwoman, Shirley Tong Nga-yin.

'The number of abandoned rabbits has increased sharply in recent years but they only receive minimal concern,' she said.

The society has provided temporary homes for hundreds of abandoned rabbits since 2003. However, it has no government funding.

To help ease the plight of unwanted rabbits, students from the Community College of City University have come up with the 'Give a Penny Save a Bunny' campaign. They hope to raise HK$10,000. The event will be held at the Covered Terrace at CityU from 11am to 5pm. Entrance is free.
