More than 1,900 abuse cases last year

The number of cases reported to Against Elderly Abuse rose to 1,918 last year, a 7.8 per cent increase on 2008. More than half involved obtaining money by deception, while about 30 per cent of the cases were verbal abuse. The non-governmental organisation urged the government to introduce laws criminalising abuse of elderly people.
